Coming out of Lockdown

The PCC met on Monday 12th July to discuss, amongst other things, the easing of restrictions at St Paul’s.  With the rise in cases of covid-19 locally, which has sadly had a direct impact on some of our church members, we were not able to formalise any changes to the capacity of our services. As a result, the spaces between groups with remain at 2m for the time being.  That said, it remains the PCC’s desire and commitment to move towards weekly worship at St Paul’s for all those who wish to attend.  So as an interim measure, with the agreement of the PCC, we’re implementing a new plan.  Beginning this week, we’ll be adopting a simple, weekly sign-up system in the place of the cluster method.  As we introduce this, please note the following:

  • The online sign-up form, which includes instructions, is located here;
  • Those with limited or restricted internet access can book a place by emailing Katherine or contacting a member of the church staff team;
  • Those signing up to attend can indicate whether they’re coming as part of a group of up to 6 individuals or 2 households;
  • We will leave sufficient space for visitors each Sunday;
  • Although this new system will require each household to sign up week by week, we see this as a short-term measure.  Over the next few weeks, the PCC will be conducting a full risk assessment for changes to spacing, properly assessing our capacity and drawing up a more detailed and adaptable proposal for ensuring health and safety to a reasonable and practical standard.  The PCC will then meet again to discuss and approve any further changes;
  • In the event we are over-subscribed, we will have to use over-flow seating in the hall, from which attendees can watch the service together on a screen.  For the first couple of weeks of the sign-up system, priority will be given to those for whom it would have been their cluster week.

A further update on how the changes to the law and guidance relates to St Paul’s, including an update on congregational singing, will follow later in the week.
